Childrenspedia is a free, multilingual, open content encyclopedia project owned by the American organization intelPREP, headquartered in Tenafly, New Jersey. Its name is a mixture of children's and encyclopedia. It was launched on July 15, 2008, and it is based on Wikipedia, the popular Internet encyclopedia. Childrenspedia is a wiki that runs using MediaWiki.
People can change the articles in Childrenspedia, or even create new articles. Childrenspedia has a standard formatting that must apply for all pages in the encyclopedia.
Childrenspedia contains original content created by volunteers. Many pages on Childrenspedia also mirror pages from Simple English Wikipedia or are derivative works from those pages. Childrenspedia is devoted to making content available to young people and foreigners for whom English is a second language by keeping the language simpler than the articles found on Wikipedia.
